  • เครื่องหมาย asterisk (ดอกจัน) เป็นอักขระตัวหนึ่ง มีอยู่บนแผงแป้นอักขระ เมื่อนำมาใช้ในคำสั่งระบบดอส สัญลักษณ์ * จะใช้แทนตัวอักษรใด ๆ ก็ได้ กี่ตัวก็ได้ (wildcards) ใช้เมื่อต้องการอ้างถึงชื่อแฟ้มข้อมูล เช่นถ้าใช้ A*.* หมายความถึง แฟ้มข้อมูลทุกแฟ้มที่มีชื่อขึ้นต้นด้วยอักษร A และจะมีนามสกุลอะไรก็ได้ หรือถ้าใช้ *.COM ก็หมายความ ถึงแฟ้มข้อมูลทุกแฟ้มที่มีนามสกุล COM ถ้าใช้ *.* ก็จะหมายถึงทุกแฟ้มข้อมูลที่มีอยู่ในสารบบ หรือในจานบันทึก ดู wildcards ประกอบ[hope]
